CLUB
CHESS
What kind of prrogramming
do we offer?
Mainly chess... we are a chess club.
1
Chess
Whether you’re just learning how the pieces move or you’ve already mastered your favourite openings, the Summerside Chess Club is your place to play.
We meet in two locations, each designed for different age groups — but the atmosphere is the same everywhere: fun, friendly, and full of great games.
The Coach brings years of experience and a genuine love for helping players grow. You’ll get tips, challenges, and chances to test your skills in real games. No pressure, no stress — just learning, improving, and having a good time.
The Coach also serves as the Youth Coordinator for Chess PEI.
Never played chess before? Jump in. Played for years? Bring your best moves.
At the Summerside Chess Club, everyone gets a seat at the board. Come hang out, make friends, and enjoy the game.
2
Origami
Have you ever picked up a plain piece of paper and wondered what you could turn it into? A dragon, a jumping frog, a flapping bird, a secret box — the possibilities are endless.
Origami is the ancient Japanese art of paper folding:
-
ori (折り) — to fold
-
kami (紙) — paper
Put them together and you get origami (折り紙) — folded paper.
You can try origami at both the Summerside Farmer’s Market and the Summerside Chess Club. Whether you’re a beginner or already a master folder, you’re always welcome to challenge yourself, learn something new, and create your own paper masterpiece.

Social Time
Different places create different vibes, and the Summerside Chess Club embraces both.
The Chess Table at the Summerside Farmer’s Market, things can feel a little competitive. You’re surrounded by friends, family, and curious strangers who stop to watch your game or admire your origami. Everyone wants to see you pull off a great move or fold something amazing. It’s exciting, busy, and full of energy — “no pressure.”
At the Chess Club at the Summerside Rotary Library, the atmosphere is completely different. It’s calm, friendly, and designed just for kids and teens ages 4–17. No audience, no distractions — just you, your friends, and your coach.
Kids are naturally competitive — that’s part of growing up — but here’s the important thing:
The Summerside Chess Club is:
- not about beating the most people
- not about proving who’s “the best.”
- not about showing off
It’s about learning how to play chess, improving your skills, and having fun while you do it.
I teach absolute beginners — kids who have never played a single game in their lives — and I also coach seasoned players. Many of our members have placed 1st in their age category at the
PEI Provincial Chess Championship (PEI YCA). Everyone starts somewhere, and everyone belongs here.
Whether you’re brand new or already a champion, the Summerside Chess Club is your place to grow.
