Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the Summerside Chess Club?

The Summerside Chess Clubis just what the name of the club says that it is... a chess club in Summerside, PEI.
There is a Saturday morning
chess table, open to anyone of any age and or skill level, held at the Summerside Farmer's Market.
There is a Saturday afternoon chess club, only for children, held at
The Summerside Rotary Library.
The Saturday afternoon chess club, however, is what the chess coach calls the
Summerside Chess Club.​

2. What is the library chess club?

The library chess club is what the chess coach calls the "Summerside Chess Club".
This club is only open to 4
-18 year olds (pre-school & school-age children), and is held at every Saturday afternoon from 3:00am-5:00pm, at The Summerside Rotary Library.
Registration is required.
This club is what is known as a "scholastic chess club".

The Japanese art of paper folding, called origami, is also offered at the
Summerside Chess Club.

3. What is the chess table?

The chess table is a place where anyone of any age and or skill level can come and play chess. It held at every Saturday from 9:00am-1:00pm, at the Summerside Farmer's Market.

4. Is there an age limit?

Yes and No.

There is no age limit for the chess table at the market. The chess table is open to anyone of any age and or skill level. Just sit down, and you can have a game of chess with the chess coach. It's free. However, the chess table is primarily used by children.


The Summerside Chess Club is only for children and teenagers (4-18 year old's). Sorry, no one younger than 4 years old. If you are an adult (18+), this club is not for you. There are other chess clubs in Summerside that you can attend. The Summerside Chess Club is free, but registration is required.  Participation in monthly tournaments (the last Saturday of every month), however, is $10 per tournament (tournaments are rated by Chess'n Math).

5. Why do so many clubs have the same name?

The Summerside Chess Club is a combination of the chess table (at the Summerside Farmer's Market) & the chess club held at The Summerside Rotary Library (referred to as the Summerside Chess Club).

6. Does the  Summerside Chess Club offer a club for adults?

Other than the chess table, no it doesn't.
